Silver Hawks Take Series from TinCaps

South Bend Holds On for 8-7 Victory
August 26, 2011
South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks held on for a wild 8-7 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Friday evening, taking two out of three in the series from the wild card leader. The Hawks are now six games out of a playoff spot with 10 games to go in the Midwest League season.

Friday's game was marred by five errors and 10 unearned runs between the two teams, but despite committing more errors, the Hawks were able to hang on.

Matt Helm and Gerson Montilla helped South Bend take advantage of Fort Wayne errors in the third, with Helm driving a two run double to the wall and Montilla following with a two run homer. Montilla's blast to left field was his seventh on the season, putting him tied for third on the team this season.

The Silver Hawks also had RBIs from Ender Inciarte, David Narodowski, Niko Gallego, and Yazy Arbelo on the night. Narodowski finished a home run shy of the cycle while Arbelo's 91st RBI of the season tied him for the league lead and put him in a tie for fifth on the Silver Hawks single season leader board.

South Bend's pitching was solid, and would have looked a lot better had it not been for all the errors. Tyler Green (WP, 4-8) turned in his fifth straight strong performance, allowing only two runs (one earned) over 5.0 innings. Green has not allowed more than two runs in any of his five August starts, but tonight was his first victory in August.

Patrick Schuster (ND) followed and allowed five runs in 3.0 innings, but only one of the runs was charged as earned. Eury De La Rosa (SV, 10) recorded the final three outs to pick up his second save over the last three nights.

The TinCaps used five different pitchers on the night, but the loss was pinned on starter Todd Privett (LP, 3-3) as he allowed five unearned runs in 3.2 innings on the bump.

The Silver Hawks remain at the Cove and begin the final home series of the year against the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) at 5:30 PM Eastern Time on Saturday. RHP Mike Bolsinger (5-6, 2.94 ERA) will make his final home start of the year against Lake County's LHP Kirk Wetmore (3-2, 5.92 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 5:10 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
