August 28, 2011
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The San Diego Padres announced on Friday (August 26th) that they have selected infielder Andy Parrino from Double-A San Antonio.

Parrino takes the place of former Fort Wayne infielder James Darnell, who was assigned to Triple-A Tucson.

Parrino, 25, has hit .315 (96-for-305) with 20 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 56 RBI, 54 runs scored and 38 walks in 88 games played between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson.

His appearance as a pinch-hitter in Saturday's game against Arizona (he drew a base-on-balls) was his Major League debut.

Originally signed by the Padres as a 26th-round selection out of LeMoyne College (NY) in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Parrino has hit .264 (449-for-1700) with 106 doubles, eight triples, 35 home runs, 218 RBI and 278 runs scored over parts of five minor league seasons in the Padres (2007-2011) organization.

One of those seasons was in 2008, when he played in 120 games for the then-Fort Wayne Wizards, where he batted .252 (102-for-405) with 20 doubles, seven home runs, and 43 runs batted in.

Parrino also played in five games for the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2009, where he batted .500 (9-for-18) with two doubles and three runs batted in.

Parrino is the 103rd former Fort Wayne player who has made it all the way to the Major League level.

The TinCaps continue a four-game series with the Lansing Lugnuts (Class A-Toronto Blue Jays) on Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. at Parkview Field.

They will start RHP Matt Jackson (4-1, 2.13) on the mound.

Jackson will be opposed by Lansing LHP Egan Smith (6-7, 4.19).
