Brad Brach Named PCL Pitcher of the Week

NAVARRO, BRACH NAMED PCL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Efren Navarro of the Salt Lake Bees and Brad Brach of the Tucson Padres have been named the Pacific Coast League Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 22-28, the league announced today.

Navarro batted a PCL-best .593 (16-for-27) with a .633 on-base percentage and 1.185 slugging percentage in seven games last week, collecting three doubles, two triples, three home runs and seven runs batted in. Along with batting average, the left-handed hitter ranked atop the leaderboard in six additional categories, including hits, triples, extra-base hits, total bases, slugging percentage and OPS. Navarro had at least one extra-base hit in all seven games and turned in a three-hit game on four different occasions.

Navarro, 25, has played in 130 games for the Bees this season, where he is second on the team in batting average, hits, doubles, triples and runs scored. While he is batting .424 (28-for-66) with a .924 slugging percentage since August 12th, the Las Vegas, Nevada native has paired his offense with a strong defensive performance all season, leading all qualifying first baseman with a .998 fielding percentage. Navarro has committed three errors in 1,326 chances.

Brach made five appearances out of the Tucson bullpen in the Padres' seven games last week, all against a pair of division leaders, Sacramento and Reno. He held the opposition to a .095 batting average against (two hits/21 batters faced) and no runs over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was a perfect 3-for-3 in save opportunities, adding to his team-best 11 saves for the season.

Brach, 25, began the year with Double-A San Antonio, posting a 2-2 record with 23 saves and a 2.25 earned run average over 42 appearances for the Missions. The New Jersey native, who struck out 64 batters against five walks with San Antonio, pitched in his first career game at the Triple-A level on July 6th, notching a save against the Reno Aces. Brach has successfully converted 112 saves in 120 chances during his four-year professional career.

Brach becomes the second reliever and second Tucson Padres pitcher to be named PCL Pitcher of the Week in 2011. The first relief pitcher to be honored this season was Willie Eyre of Sacramento, while Tucson's Wade LeBlanc won the award for the week of June 27-July 3.
