Bill Schlough Named San Jose Giants Interim Team President

August 29, 2011
SAN JOSE, CA - The Board of Directors of the San Jose Giants announced today that Bill Schlough has been named interim team president of the San Jose Giants. He replaces outgoing team president Jim Weyermann, who resigned in July. Schlough will remain at the helm of the ball club until a permanent replacement is appointed.

"Bill has set a standard of excellence in the San Francisco Giants organization by demonstrating leadership, achievement and professionalism. We are confident in his ability to lead the San Jose Giants going forward and to build on the team's success both on and off the field," said Bill Neukom, San Francisco Giants Managing General Partner and CEO and Chairman of the San Jose Giants Board of Directors. "He will play a critical role in our efforts to further integrate San Jose's baseball and business practices with those of the Major League club."

Schlough will oversee the club's business strategy and all aspects of the minor league operation, including stadium operations, marketing, sales, sponsorship, finance, customer service and player services. He will work closely with the board of directors and executive staff to grow San Jose's status as a perennial postseason contender and to provide top level customer service experience for San Jose Giants fans. He will also serve as the primary liaison with the San Francisco Giants Major League club.

Schlough, 41, currently serves as senior vice president and chief information officer for the San Francisco Giants. Under his leadership, the Giants have been universally recognized as one of the most technologically innovative teams in all of professional sports. The organization has enhanced the fan experience through a number of cutting-edge technologies, including the "Double Play Ticket Window," universal gift cards, contactless payments, Hi-Definition video displays, pervasive wireless connectivity and the "Digital Dugout" Wi-Fi portal. Schlough's IT team has also implemented an array of revolutionary systems to create a competitive advantage on the field. Bill will continue to lead the information technology team and will split his time between San Francisco and San Jose.

"I consider it a real privilege to have the opportunity to lead a franchise that has accomplished so much in recent years," said Schlough. "I look forward to working with our outstanding leadership team in San Jose to chart a course for continued success in the years to come."

Prior to joining the San Francisco Giants, Schlough worked as a consultant with Booz-Allen & Hamilton and Electronic Data Systems, supporting a diverse collection of clients including AMD, Northrop Grumman and General Motors. An Olympic enthusiast, Schlough is a board member of the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC), and served as a technology lead for San Francisco's bids to host the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. He has lent his technological and event expertise to the 1994 World Cup and the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Salt Lake and Torino, Italy and currently serves on the Communications & Technology Committee for the 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships at Beaver Creek.

Schlough holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Duke University and an MBA from the Wharton School. In 2010, he was named to the Sports Business Journal's "Forty Under 40" class for the most respected young executives in the sports industry.
