Zephyrs Defeat Las Vegas 51s 9-8

5/15/07: ZEPHYRS (Mets) 9 51's (Dodgers) 8
Game Keys: Andy Tracy drilled a two run home run in the eighth inning to break a 7-7 tie to give the New Orleans Zephyrs a 9-8 victory at Cashman Field in Las Vegas. New Orleans jumped out to a 5 - 0 lead in the game and starter Jose Santiago pitched 5 shutout innings. The sixth inning started the comeback for Vegas as the 51's scored four in the inning. Ricky Ledee hammered a two run home run in the seventh inning to give the Zephyrs a three run lead. The lead did not hold as Mitch Jones hit a two run home run off of Ryan Cullen to tie the game. Cullen would get a blown save and a victory for the game. Ivan Maldonado earned his third save in the ninth inning. Jason Alfaro and Wilson Batista led the way for the Z's with three hits each. New Orleans spilt the series with the 51's.

Game Notes: Anderson Hernandez extended his hit streak to ten games. The Mets promoted pitcher Ambiorix Burgas and assigned pitcher Lino Urdaneta to the Zephyrs. New Orleans spilt the west coast trip winning four and dropping four.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs (19-21) are off on Wednesday but return home to start a eight game homestand on Thursday against the Omaha Royals. New Orleans will be home for 16 of the next 20 games.

5/14/07: ZEPHYRS (Mets) 5 51's (Dodgers) 7
Game Keys: Las Vegas outfielder Mitch Jones drilled a three run home run in the fourth inning and the 51's defeated the Zephyrs 7-5 at Cashman Field. The Zephyrs committed two errors in the 4th inning leading to the four run outbreak all of the runs were unearned. Former Zephyr pitcher DJ Houlton earned the win for the 51's and spot starter Willie Collazo took the loss. New Orleans struck first with a solo home run by Fernando Tatis. Anderson Hernandez had two hits and drove home two rbi's. Las Vegas leads the series 2-1.

Game Notes: Anderson Hernandez extended his hit streak to nine games. The Mets promoted pitcher Ambiorix Burgas and assigned pitcher Lino Urdaneta to the Zephyrs. The Zephyrs added Mets relief pitcher Guillermo Mota on a rehab assignment.

Game Keys: Philip Humber pitched seven innings allowed a run and drove home three runs in the New Orleans Zephyrs 10-3 victory on Sunday at Cashman Field in Las Vegas. The Zephyr starting pitcher snapped a personal three game losing streak, he limited Vegas to five hits and struck out six batters. The Z's scored the games first run in the third inning with a Anderson Hernandez base hit to score Wilson Batista. New Orleans loaded the bases in the fourth with two out and Philip Humber drilled his first hit of the season as triple to center field scoring three runners. New Orleans jumped out to a 5-0 lead and tacked on four more runs in the sixth inning with a two run home run from Fernando Tatis. Eric Stults allowed eight runs and takes the loss. Anderson Hernandez had three hits and drove home three for the Z's. The win snaps a two game losing streak and evens the series at one game each.

Game Notes: Anderson Hernandez extended his hit streak to eight games. The Zephyrs are 3-3 on their west coast road trip. The Mets promoted outfielder Carlos Gomez and assigned pitcher Mike Pelfrey to the Zephyrs. The Zephyrs will add Mets relief pitcher Guillermo Mota on Monday on a rehab assignment. Former Major Leaguer Ricky Henderson has joined the Z's as a base running instructor and is working with the Zephyr players in Las Vegas.

Game Keys: New Orleans committed a season high four errors and dropped the first game of the series in Las Vegas 3-1. The 51's scored a first inning run when Matt Kemp doubled with two outs and scored on a Mitch Jones RBI single. Las Vegas promoted former Met farmhand Miguel Pinango from Class A and he made his Class AAA debut and pitched five scoreless innings and earned the victory. Zephyr starter Adam Bostick pitched five innings and suffered the defeat. New Orleans scored its lone run of the game in the top of the ninth inning with a Ben Johnson solo home run. The las Vegas pitching staff allowed 36 runs in the prevoius two games against Oklahona. Vegas leads the series 1-0.

Game Notes: Anderson Hernandez extended his hit streak to seven games. The Z's allowed a run in the first inning and have been outscored 36 - 11 for the season. The runs allowed are the 11th time in the last 13 games for the Z's. New Orleans activated Ben Johnson from the disabled list and placed Robinson Cancel on the DL.

Game Keys: New Orleans allowed a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and the Tucson Sidewinders defeated the Z's 6-3 at Tucson Electric Park on Friday evening. The Sidewinders had a balanced attack with 13 hits. Alex Romero, Dee Brown, and Mark Johnson each had three hits in the contest for Tucson. Former Met prospect Evan MacLane pitched five innings and earned the win. Chan Ho Park worked six innings and suffered the loss in his first outing since returning to the Z's from the Mets. Carlos Gomez hit a two run home run for the Z's in the sixth inning. The series concluded with each team winning two games.

Game Notes: The Z's allowed two runs in the first inning and have been outscored 35 - 11 for the season. The runs allowed are the tenth time in the last 12 games for the Z's. New Orleans will activate Ben Johnson from the disabled list on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Game Keys: Chip Ambres continued his hot hitting belting two hits and drove in two runs as the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Tucson Sidewinders 6-3 on Thursday night. Jose Santiago pitched six innings and earned his first win of the season. The Z's starter did not allow a run in the first inning and allowed one hit through five innings. New Orleans had allowed a run in nine of their last ten games. The Z's scored a run in the first inning with a Andy Tracy single scoring Carlos Gomez. New Orleans took advantage of a Tucson error in the fourth inning and scored three times. Sandy Alomar, Jr had three hits and drove in a run. Steve Schmoll pitched the a scoreless ninth inning and earned the save. New Orleans leads the series 2-1.

Game Notes: Chip Ambres extended his hit streak to four games, he has 7 RBI in the last four games. Z's allowed five hits in the win on Thursday it was the first time in a stretch of 11 games that the Z's allowed 9 or fewer hits. Wednesday's starting pitcher Clint Nageotte left the game after the second inning with shoulder tendonitis has been placed on the disabled list. Chan Ho Park has been added to the Z's roster from the Mets and will start Friday. New Orleans will activate Ben Johnson from the disabled list on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Game Keys: The New Orleans Zephyrs scored four times in the fourth inning and snapped a seven game losing streak defeating the Tucson Sidewinders 8-4 on Wednesday evening. Reliever Willie Collazo earned the victory working four innings of relief. Tucson started the scoring with a lead off home run from Danny Richar in the first inning. The Z's sent eight batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scored four times. Chip Ambres drove in a run with a double and Ricky Ledee drove home two runs in the inning. Carlos Gomez hit his first home run of the season in the fifth inning to give the Z's a 5-3 lead. New Orleans scored three insurance runs in the ninth as Chip Ambres drilled a two run home run. The Z's Eddie Camacho pitched the final three innings to earn the save. New Orleans evens the series with Tucson at one game each.

Tucson infielder Donnie Sadler drilled a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie and deliver the Tucson Sidewinders a 6-4 victory over the Zephyrs on Tuesday evening in Arizona. The Sidewinders used six pitchers in the game and Mike Schultz (1-3) pitched one scoreless inning of relief to earn the win, Ryan Cullen (0-2) picked up the loss. Tucson started the scoring in the first inning picking up a pair of runs off of starter Jason Vargas. New Orleans fought back scoring a run in the second inning and added three additional runs in the third. Chip Ambres added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Zephyrs in the loss. Tucson tied the game in the fourth inning with a pair of runs. The Sidewinders bullpen silenced the Zephyrs, pitching six and one third innings and allowed two hits and zero runs. Chad Harville earned the save pitching a scoreless ninth. The Zephyrs dropped their first game of the eight game road trip and now have lost a season high seven consecutive.

Game Notes: New Orleans allowed a pair of runs in the first inning and now have been outscored 32-10 in the first inning. The Z's have allowed a first inning run in 8 of their last nine games. The Z's Carlos Gomez stole his 16th base of the season and leads the Pacific Coast League. The loss snaps the Zephyrs five game win streak at Tucson Electric Park, dating back to the 2004 season.
