Withrow Whips Biscuits in 3-2 Win for Lookouts

September 3, 2011
Lookouts starting pitcher Chris Withrow pitched sublimely, yielding just one run on one hit and three walks over six innings to lead the Lookouts to a 3-2 win over Montgomery in Saturday night action at AT&T Field.

After three innings of offensive futility, both teams exchanged small rallies in the fourth frame. Montgomery scored on a Henry Wrigley sacrifice fly, which was prefaced by a Cole Figueroa triple. On the Lookouts half of the inning, Hector Gimenez led off with a double and advanced to third on a subsequent Scott Van Slyke single. Travis Denker followed with a pop up, but Brian Cavazos-Galvez came through with an RBI single to plate Gimenez. Corey Smith then hit a fly out to deep right, which allowed Van Slyke to easily reach third. With runners on the corners, Cavazos-Galvez attempted to steal second, which evolved into a pickle in which he was eventually tagged out, but Van Slyke was able to cross the plate to give the Lookouts a 2-1 lead.

The Lookouts added another run in the fifth inning off of Biscuits starting pitcher Shane Dyer (7-11). Matt Wallach led off with a double and eventually scored on an Alex Castellanos sacrifice fly.

Chattanooga kept Montgomery in check until the ninth inning, when Shawn Tolleson entered the game with one out and runners on the corners. Tolleson immediately registered a strikeout, but Kyeong Kang added some drama to the game with an RBI single. Tolleson, however, was able to induce a ground out to end the game, notching his 12th save of the season in the process.

Withrow, who notched seven strikeouts on the evening, improved to 6-6 on the season with the win.

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Montgomery Biscuits will continue their five-game series at 6:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
