Cats fall to Sky Sox; playoffs open Wednesday
The River Cats fell 6-5 in 10 innings to host Colorado Springs on Monday afternoon, ending a 10-game winning streak in the regular-season finale.
Sacramento finished the season 7-4 in extra-inning games. The River Cats also went 14-2 against the Sky Sox this season, matching the team's best record against a conference foe. Sacramento also went 14-2 against Reno last season.
Sacramento opens the playoffs Wednesday night in Reno in Game 1 of a five-game series against the Interstate 80 rivals. Games 3, 4 and 5 (4 and 5, if necessary) will be played at Raley Field on Friday through Sunday.
Sacramento infielder Wes Timmons went 0-for-5 on Monday, snapping a 15-game hitting streak. He also took the loss on the mound after allowing the game-winning run in the 10th inning. Matt Pagnozzi doubled home the winning run off Timmons, who was making his first pitching appearance of the season as manager Darren Bush looked to keep his bullpen fresh with the playoffs looming.
Sacramento pinch-hitter Joel Galarraga tied the game in the top of the ninth with a two-out single to left field.
