Rizzotti and Hutchison Win Weekly Awards

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of August 29th through September 5th:

Reading Phillies first baseman Matt Rizzotti has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 29th-September 5th. The 25-year old batted .375 (12-for-32) with four doubles, one triple, three home runs, 10 RBI, five runs scored, four walks and a .844 slugging percentage in eight games last week while helping the R-Phils clinch a playoff berth with their second place finish in the Eastern Division standings. Rizzotti, who is a native of Floral Park, New York, had four multiple hit games during the week and drove in or scored at least one run in each of the eight games he played in last week, including going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in a 6-2 playoff-clinching win over Binghamton on the final day of the regular season. The 6'5", 265 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in RBI (10) and slugging percentage (.844) last week. He was also ranked among the weekly leaders in homers (3-tied 1st), extra-base hits (8-tied 1st), total bases (27-2nd), OPS (1.288-2nd), doubles (4-tied 3rd), triples (1-tied 4th), hits (12-tied 6th), batting average (.375-tied 9th) and on-base percentage (.444-tied 9th). Matt, who was the DH on the 2011 Eastern League All-Star Team, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the sixth round of the 2007 draft out of Manhattan College.

Drew Hutchison, a right-handed starting pitcher for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 29th-September 5th. The 6'2", 165 lb. hurler made a pair of appearance for the Fisher Cats last week and had a record of 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings pitched. Hutchison, who is a native of Lakeland, Florida, made his first start of the week on Tuesday at Trenton and allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out six batters over five innings to earn the win as the Fisher Cats edged the Thunder 3-2. The 21-year old was even more impressive in his second appearance of the week, throwing five shutout innings in a 7-0 win at Portland on Sunday afternoon. He struck out eight batters and did not allow a walk while surrendering just one hit. Hutchison has started three games for the Fisher Cats since being promoted from the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Class-A Florida State on August 20th and has a record of 3-0 with 21 strikeouts and a 1.20 ERA over 15 innings of work. Drew, who has a combined record of 14-5 with 171 strikeouts and a 2.53 ERA between New Hampshire, Dunedin and Lansing this season, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2009 draft out of Lakeland High School in Florida.
