Dunkin' Donuts and the Syracuse Chiefs turn two for Food Bank of CNY

Season-long partnership yields 100-pound coffee donation
September 6, 2011
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse Chiefs Manager Randy Knorr joined Dunkin' Donuts franchisees at Alliance Bank Stadium Sunday evening to donate 100 pounds of coffee to Food Bank of Central New York. The donation - the equivalent of more than 5,000 cups of coffee - was fueled by a season-long partnership between the Chiefs and Dunkin' Donuts.

During the 2011 season, Dunkin' Donuts pledged to donate one pound of coffee to Food Bank of Central New York for every double play turned at home by the Chiefs. Led by a cast of infielders, Syracuse recorded more than 50 double plays at home during the regular season.

Dunkin' Donuts and its Central New York franchisees doubled the donation to bring the final tally to 100 pounds of fresh brewed Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

"Our partnership with the Syracuse Chiefs is designed to capture the excitement of each double play and turn it into a tangible benefit for Food Bank of Central New York," said Eric Stensland, upstate New York field marketing manager for Dunkin' Donuts. "We would like to congratulate the Chiefs for their efforts this season and the entertainment they provided to their loyal fans."

"Many of us look forward to a cup of coffee each morning and see it as an essential part of starting our day," said Tom Slater, executive director of Food Bank of Central New York. "We are extremely grateful that Dunkin' Donuts and the Syracuse Chiefs teamed up to give back to our food bank. Now we can provide coffee for thousands of residents in need throughout our area."

Food Bank of Central New York is a nonprofit organization working to eliminate hunger through nutritious food distribution, education and advocacy in cooperation with the community. The food bank provides more than 23,000 meals per day through 476 member programs in 11 counties in Central and Northern New York.

"We are proud to take part in this outstanding initiative to benefit Food Bank of Central New York," said Syracuse Chiefs General Manager John Simone. "Our organization is deeply committed to giving back to our fans and to the community at large. Dunkin' Donuts has been a great partner and we applaud its commitment to the food bank and those it serves."

Dunkin' Donuts and the Syracuse Chiefs are also about to conclude another season of an annual partnership that provided more than 1,800 tickets in a special section of Alliance Bank Stadium to Central New York groups and non-profit agencies during the 2011 season.
