Jared Hughes 102nd Former Crawdads to the Majors

Pitcher Jared Hughes was promoted to the Pittsburgh Pirates from AAA- Indianapolis on Tuesday. He becomes the 102nd former Crawdads player to receive a promotion to the major leagues.

Hughes pitched for the Crawdads during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. He joined the Crawdads in 2006 after being drafted by the Pirates in the 4th round out of Long Beach State.

During his two seasons in Hickory, Hughes was 13-13 with a 4.93 ERA in 37 starts.

Since leaving the Crawdads, Hughes worked his way up the Pirates system, debuting at the AAA level this season. With Indianapolis in 2011, Hughes was 3-1 with a 2.11 ERA while striking out 45 batters in 42.1 innings over 35 appearances out of the bullpen.

Hughes is the 9th player from the 2006 team and the 4th player off the 2007 playoff squad to make it to the majors.
