Surging second baseman powers Beavers past Express
May 15, 2007
Craig Stansberry homered twice and drove in five runs Monday as the Portland Beavers edged the Round Rock Express, 9-8, at The Dell Diamond.

Stansberry lifted a sacrifice fly in the first inning, ripped a two-run homer in the third and slugged a solo shot in the sixth for his fourth homer of the season. He also was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in a four-run seventh.

It was the second five-RBI game of the season for the 25-year-old second baseman, who has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games (14-for-35, .400). He leads the Beavers with a .360 batting average, 29 RBIs, 26 runs scored and 16 doubles.

Vince Sinisi scored three times and fell a home run short of the cycle, while Paul McAnulty, Pete LaForest and Brian Myrow each plated runs for the Beavers (18-19).

Portland reliever Aaron Rakers (1-0) yielded one hit while striking out one in a scoreless frame. Leo Rosales recorded his Pacific Coast League-leading 11th save, despite surrendering two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk in the ninth.

Express reliever Miguel Asencio (0-3) recorded two outs in the seventh, but let up three runs on one hit and two walks without a strikeout. Starter Juan Gutierrez gave up four runs on five hits while striking out four in six innings.

Mark Saccomanno went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and three runs scored, while Cody Ransom cracked a two-run shot in the sixth for Round Rock (18-21). Josh Anderson belted a two-run single in the ninth, but was stranded as the potential tying run by Barry Wesson's groundout.
