Bats' Machado hits for the cycle
Machado took advantage of the extra frame, singling in the top half to become just the third player in Louisville history to hit for the cycle. Stan Royer did it on July 19, 1991, against Denver and David Bell did it on Aug. 11, 1995, against Iowa.
The 26-year-old shortstop, went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He hit a solo homer in the first, ripped an RBI triple in the fourth and doubled in the sixth. Machado popped out in the eighth but got another chance to go for the cycle when the Mud Hens scored in the ninth to force extra innings.
David Espinosa singled to lead off the bottom of the 10th, advanced on Ramon Santiago's sacrifice and took third on Chris Shelton's groundout. When Ricky Stone uncorked a wild pitch, Espinosa raced home with the winning run.
Toledo (20-22) tied it when Ryan Raburn hit a one-out single, advanced to third on Jack Hannahan's single and scored on Mike Hessman's sacrifice fly.
Toledo starter Virgil Vasquez (4-3) went five innings and surrendered seven runs on 10 hits and a walk, while striking out six. Vic Darensbourg (2-0) earned the win, fanning three over three scoreless frames.
Bats starter Bobby Livingston went 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and five walks while striking out three. Stone (3-2) allowed two runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings.
