North Carolina and Wake Forest to meet Sunday for ACC Championship
Winner gets automatic bid to NCAA Tournament
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Carolina Tarheels, currently ranked fourth in the nation, will take on the upstart Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the ACC Baseball Championship Game Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
On Saturday afternoon, North Carolina beat Virginia, 5-0, to capture the Division 'B' pool in the new round-robin format and advance to Sunday's title game.
Division 'A' had an exciting final day with Clemson knocking off #1 seed Florida State, 5-1. Clemson's win eliminated Miami, who still had to face Wake Forest in the nightcap of Saturday's action. Wake Forest, who snuck into the Championship as the #8 seed, upset the Hurricanes and by virtue of owning the head-to-head tiebreaker over Clemson, advances to Sunday's Championship game against North Carolina.
The Atlantic Coast Conference will honor military personnel for Sunday's Championship Game. Through ACC Properties and the City of Jacksonville, 1,000 free tickets will be available to the first 500 military personnel who present a valid military i.d.
The title game of this year's ACC Baseball Championsihp will be televised, with Fox Sports Net South and SportsSouth providing live coverage. The league championship has also been broadcast on four other networks, which includes FSN Florida, SUN Sports, Comcast and NESN.
Tickets for the ACC Championship Game are currently on sale at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville box office and online at www.jaxsuns.com.
