Bump Brilliant, but 'Pigs Fall Late in Columbus

September 14, 2011
The incredible eight-game winning streak for the IronPigs came to an end on Tuesday night, as the IronPigs let the game slip away late. The Columbus Clippers were able to come up with four big runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, which was enough to solidify the 4-1 win to tie the series at 1-1 before it heads back to Allentown for the final three games.

Nate Bump was as sharp as ever, as he allowed just two hits in the first seven innings before allowing a single to Juan Diaz and a double to Argenis Reyes to start off the eighth inning. Mike Zagurski would come on in relief of Bump, and allowed the first inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly from Travis Buck before allowing the go-ahead run on a wild pitch with bases loaded after a single from Jared Goedert. Beau Mills tacked on the final two runs for the Clippers on a two-out, two-run single to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

In the regular season, the IronPigs went 60-2 when leading after seven innings.

For the Clippers, RHP Mitch Talbot pitched a complete game and was nearly untouchable with the exception of a solo home run by Tagg Bozied in the top of the fifth inning to give the IronPigs the lead until the ill-fated eighth inning.

Talbot allowed just the one run on seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in his nine innings of work.

The teams will travel back to Allentown to play the final three games of the five-game series at Coca-Cola Park, with Dave Bush getting the start for the IronPigs against RHP Joe Martinez. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
