Wood Ducks Break Kinston Indians Attendance Record
KINSTON, NC - During Friday's contest with the Buies Creek Astros, the Down East Wood Ducks surpassed 133,049 fans this season - breaking the previous Grainger Stadium record set by the Kinston Indians in 2009.
Attendance records are tracked to 2005, when the K-Tribe played at Historic Grainger Stadium until 2011. The record was set thanks in part to a fascinating anomaly in the Carolina League: no rainouts. That season was the only year on-record featuring a team that did not have a rainout
Down East has played 67 games at home to date, averaging 2,001 fans per game. In July, the Woodies became the fastest team to reach 100,000 fans in Kinston history by doing so in 48 games.
Friday night's attendance of 1,938 sets the record at 133, 982 and it will continue to climb with five more home games scheduled at Grainger Stadium.
