Recker, Ports batter Giants

Stockton catcher falls a single short of the cycle in 14-1 shellacking
May 28, 2007
Anthony Recker came up a single short of the cycle and Stockton used an 11-run third inning to blow past host San Jose, 14-1, on Monday.

The Ports (27-24) sent 14 batters to the plate in the third inning, which included a grand slam by Tommy Everidge, three doubles, two singles, four walks, a hit batsman and an error. Anthony Recker smacked a two-run double and scored in the frame.

Recker, a 23-year-old catcher, tripled and scored in the second. He added his sixth home run of the season to lead off the fourth, but popped out in the sixth and flew out in the eighth to finish without a single. It was the third time this season he has plated three runs.

With Kane County of the Midwest League last season, he came up short of the cycle twice, missing a homer July 23 and a triple Aug. 6.

Stockton reliever Trent Peterson (4-3) yielded one run on three hits over six innings for the win, striking out three and walking three.

Brian Bocock drove in the only run for the Giants (29-22). His sacrifice fly scored Antoan Richardson in the sixth.

San Jose starter Joseph Martinez (4-3) took the loss. He allowed eight runs on eight hits over 2 1/3 innings.
