Vancouver drubbed in series finale at Everett
(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - A five-run outburst in the bottom of the 1st inning was enough for the Everett Aquasox to take the rubber match of a three-game series on Friday as the 'Sox handed Vancouver an 11-4 loss moving the Canadians into a tie for top spot in the North Division alongside Tri-City who topped Spokane 4-0.
The early offensive surge was spearheaded by Everett 1B Onil Pena who hit his 9th home run of the season with a pair of runners on-base. RHP Dany Jimenez couldn't escape the 1st inning as his first appearance since a rehab effort brought little confidence as he allowed five earned runs on five hits to fall to 1-2 on the season while Aquasox RHP Andres Torres improved to 7-1. Note: The Canadians retired the final 13 Aquasox hitters in order.
Offensively, the Canadians rallied for four runs in the top of the 9th inning with Kacy Clemens drawing a bases loaded walk to open the frame, and Riley Adams delivering the big blow, a two-run single that brought Vancouver to within seven.
The Canadians and Everett finish the regular season 6-6 (.500) against each other with Vancouver going 2-4 out at Memorial Stadium and 4-2 at Scotiabank Field.
Vancouver now returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium to open the final regular season homestand of 2017 as they welcome the Boise Hawks (August 26-30) with the first pitch on Saturday set for 7:05pm on a night where both Steve Erickson and the late Hal Straight are set to be inducted into the Vancouver Canadians Broadcast & Journalism Hall of Fame.
