Weiser shuts down Legends
Keith Weiser tossed seven dominant innings as Asheville blanked visiting Lexington, 6-0, on Wednesday.
Weiser (8-1) scattered three hits and a walk while matching his career high with nine strikeouts. The 22-year-old left-hander, who lowered his ERA to 3.04, fanned nine batters for short-season Tri-City in 2006.
Craig Baker allowed four hits and struck out three over two innings for the Tourists (35-17).
Matt Repec went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for Asheville, while Hector Gomez chipped in three hits and Geoff Strickland scored twice.
Legends starter David Qualben (6-3) surrendered three runs on eight hits and six walks while fanning one in five innings. Bryan Hallberg allowed three runs on five hits while walking two and fanning one in one inning.
Greg Buchanan had two hits for Lexington (23-30).
