Smith, Braves bamboozle Lynx

Dan Smith tossed six-plus solid innings and Graham Koonce drove in three runs as visiting Richmond rolled past Ottawa, 9-1, on Sunday.

Smith (2-0) held the Lynx (25-28 ) scoreless through the first six frames, but allowed a run in the seventh. He scattered five hits and two walks while striking out three over 6 2/3 innings.

Koonce hit a two-RBI double to cap a four-run second and clubbed a solo homer, his seventh, in the fifth for the Braves (32-21). Doug Clark hit a solo shot, his third homer in as many days, in the ninth.

Gregor Blanco and Brayan Pena hit RBI singles in the second, and J.C. Holt, Brent Lillibridge and Jonathan Schuerholz plated a run apiece. Blanco had three hits.

Joey Hammond delivered a run-scoring single in the seventh for Ottawa.

Lynx starter Rick Bauer (1-3) surrendered five runs -- one earned -- on five hits, striking out two and walking two over two innings. --Marissa Rega/MLB.com
