Jose Ortiz homered and Karim Garcia knocked in two runs Sunday as the North defeated the South, 5-3, in the 75th Mexican League All-Star Game.

Ortiz, one of 16 position players used by the North, slugged a two-out solo shot in the fourth inning off Rudy Gonzalez to open a 5-0 lead. He also singled home Sergio Gastelum in the third with the game's first run.

Garcia, who played for seven teams during a 10-year big-league career, drilled a two-run double and scored on a base hit by Jon Aceves to cap the North's four-run third.

Leobardo Arauz collected three hits and scored a run for the North.

Nelson Figueroa (1-0) tossed a scoreless second inning to pick up the win. Jose Lima, who won 21 games for the Houston Astros in 1999, started and allowed one hit in a scoreless first before a crowd of 6,500 at Estadio Deportivo Beto Avila in Veracruz.

Victor Alvarez (0-1) was tagged for four runs on four hits and a walk in the third for the South. Starter Francisco Campos tossed a perfect first and Jose Vargas struck out the side in the ninth.

Pinch-hitter Robert Saucedo launched a solo homer in the ninth, while Luis Suarez and Willie Romero drove in the other runs for the South.
