Petit, Bullpen Pitch Sidewinders To Win

June 4, 2007
Nashville, TN - Yusmeiro Petit allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings and Randy Choate and Chad Harville worked out of jams in the seventh and ninth innings respectively as the Sidewinders beat the Nashville Sounds 4-1 on Sunday night at Greer Stadium.

Danny Richar and Jamie D'Antona had first inning home runs to stake Petit to a 3-0 lead and the Tucson right-hander allowed just a RBI single to Nashville pitcher Adam Pettyjohn prior to his exit in the seventh inning. Petit (6-3) leads the Sidewinders in wins and is 4-0 over his last five starts.

With two on and one out and Tucson leading 4-1 in the seventh, Choate was summoned from the bullpen and got Chris Barnwell to ground into a double play. Choate struck out two of the three hitters he faced in the eighth before giving way to Harville in the ninth. The Sidewinders closer walked the first two men he faced but struck out Charles Thomas and induced a 4-6-3 double play from pinch hitter J.R. Hopf to end the game.

Harville earned his PCL leading 15th save of the season.

Richar's home run came leading off the game. It is his fourth leadoff home run of the season and the fifth time he has homered in his first at-bat.

Rich Thompson picked up a RBI on a bunt single in the sixth.

The Sidewinders and Sounds play game three of their series on Monday night at Greer Stadium. Right-hander Enrique Gonzalez (2-4, 4.57) starts for Tucson against right-hander Tim Dillard (3-3, 3.51) for Nashville. First pitch is at 5:00 Tucson time. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 5:00.
