66ers well represented in the 2011 MLB Playoffs

October 11, 2011

San Bernardino, CA- As the excitement of the 2011 MLB playoffs continues to build through amazing pitching performances, Carpenter vs. Halladay in game five of the NLDS and dominating hitting, Yankees vs. Detroit in game four of the ALDS, there are a few alumni of the 66ers organization taking part in the action.

The first and most prominent is Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre, who single handedly sent the Tampa Bay Rays home for the season after crushing three home runs in game four of the ALDS. Beltre's Rangers, who represented the AL in the 2010 World Series, is a major component in the team's goal of returning in 2011 and winning.

Beltre suited up for the San Bernardino Stampede in 1996. He appeared in 63 games, smashing 10 home runs out of his 62 hits. His batting average was .261 and he had 40 RBI. In the summer of 2011, Adrian was honored with a bobble head featuring him in his Stampede uniform. The bobble head was given out to fans, many who still remember his contributions to the franchise.

In 1995, the San Bernardino Spirit won their first California League title. The man at the helm of that championship is the current skipper of the Milwaukee Brewers, Ron Roenicke. Roenicke led the Spirit to an impressive 84-54 record. The 1995 season was Roenicke's first and only season with the Spirit. On November 2, 2010, he became the manager of the Brewers and in his first season, has them on the cusp of a World Series opportunity.

In 2007 and 2010, St. Louis Cardinal's SS Rafael Furcal donned a 66ers jersey in two separate rehab assignments and current Rangers pitching coach, Mike Maddux, earned two saves in five games of rehab with the Stampede.

The 66ers front office staff will be hosting a World Series watch party on Wednesday, October 19 with their season ticket holders; it is more than likely that one or more of these alumni of the organization will be competing for the sport's grand prize.
