Scherzer Perfect Through 7

Oaks Clobber Division-Leading San Jose
June 13, 2007
Max Scherzer stunned the San Jose crowd on Tuesday evening, pitching 7.0 perfect innings with 13 strikeouts. Scherzer faced the minimum 21 batters through his 7 frames, and struck out every batter in the San Jose line-up at least once, with the exception of Anthony Contreras. Scherzer was pulled because of a strict pitch count, as the Diamondbacks want to monitor his activity very closely.

Vince Bongiovanni came on to finish the rout, as the Oaks pulled away for a 10-4 win. On the offensive side, Rusty Ryal came within a triple of the cycle, and toasted the visiting crowd after trumping their bid to make him a "beer batter" victim.

Max Scherzer was Arizona's first round selection in the 2006 First Year Player Draft, and signed with the D'Backs at the very last moment. If even one more hour were to pass, Arizona would have lost their rights to Max, and he would have been forced to re-enter the draft.

So far this season, Scherzer has given up a single earned run in 12 innings, striking out 21.
