Weinstein Promoted to Rockies Staff

October 27, 2011
2011 has turned out to be quite the year for Jerry Weinstein. He became the winningest manager in Modesto history with 368 wins, coached in the 2011 All-Star Smash, took his team to the playoffs for the 5th consecutive season, and now he will become the Colorado Rockies catching coach, as announced by the Rockies on Friday.

In an interview with Modesto Bee's Brian VanderBeek, Weinstein had nothing but nice things to say about the man taking his place in the Modesto dugout.

"Modesto's going to see an aggressive, pitch-by-pitch, serious baseball guy," Weinstein said. "Lenn's a very intelligent baseball guy who can coach every facet of the game, and based on his track record in the California League you're getting a championship manager.

"He's a real detail guy and a real stickler for the little things, and he sees it all. On top of that he's a real consistent person - no great ups or downs - and that will be a real plus for the Rockies and for Modesto."

Taking Weinstein's place in Modesto will be Lenn Sakata who was the hitting coach for the Rockies low Class-A Asheville for the 2011 season.

With all his accomplishments with the Nuts this advancement is well deserved for Weinstein. "It's not a dugout job, which is all right by me," Weinstein was quoted in saying in a Modesto Bee article by Brian VanderBeek. "There are a lot of things that are involved with the job. I guess it took me 68 years to get to the big leagues."

This won't entirely be new territory for Weinstein, he'll be working with some former Nuts players that came up through the ranks. Weinstein will primarily be working with Chris Iannetta, a '05 Modesto Nut, Willin Rosario, a '09 Modesto Nut and Jordan Pacheco, a '10 Modesto Nut.
