Kernels select five for On-Field Host and PA Announcer positions

October 28, 2011
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels have selected five people to share the on-field host and PA announcer positions from over 30 people that auditioned at the stadium on Sunday, October 16.

Josh Paulson is the Kernels primary PA announcer. He has done PA work for several UNI events and is the current women's basketball announcer. He has also done work for Perfect Game USA, KWKB-TV, Cedar Falls HS, Prairie HS and Springville HS.

Scott Steele is part of the 'Brain and Steele' morning show on 98.1 KHAK and will be the PA voice for noon and Sunday games, plus Saturday games in April. In addition to his radio background, Scott has done PA work for the Waterloo Blackhawks, Quad Cities River Bandits and Illinois State University Baseball.

Justin Roberts is one of three on-field hosts for Kernels games this season. He is currently the morning and mid-day weather anchor on CBS2 and FOX 28. Justin has been a fill-in host at Kernels games in 2010 and 2011 as well as doing PA and on-ice hosting for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders.

Jen Riley is the second of three on-field hosts. She is new to on-field hosting, but recently worked as an on-air personality for Z 102.9 in Cedar Rapids.

Jared Aarons makes up the third part of the Kernels on-field host trio. He is currently the sports anchor on CBS2 and FOX 28 and is a part-time arena host for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. He also did PA work for the Arizona State softball program from 2000 to 2002.

"We were pleasantly surprised with the number and quality of the people that auditioned," said Andy Pantini, Communications Manager for the Kernels. "With stadium icons Dale Brodt and Carla Davis stepping down at the end of last season, the Kernels saw an opportunity to evolve these positions while keeping with our 'Party in the Park' theme."

The Cedar Rapids Kernels begin the 2012 MWL season on the road at Wisconsin on Thursday, April 5, and open their 11th season in Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, April 9 against the Clinton LumberKings. Season ticket packages and 10-game 'Anytime' coupon books are on sale now with individual game tickets going on sale Monday, March 19 at 10 am.
