Brad Brach's Big League Dreams Realized
Brad Brach, the 2010 Storm and Cal League Pitcher of the Year, made his Major League debut at Dodger Stadium on August 31, 2011 for the Padres. Brad, a New Jersey native, set a Cal League record in 2010 with 41 saves and played across three levels in 2011, including the bigs.
A 42nd round pick by the Padres in 2008, Brad's quick climb to the big leagues was anything but expected. 108 saves in three seasons will speed up plans. Brad saved 33 games in Fort Wayne and had an ERA of 1.27 before setting the Cal League record in 2010 of 41 saves with the Storm.
2011 started with Brad in AA San Antonio as the closer. In 42 games with the Missions, Brach went 23 for 25 in save opportunities and had a 2.25 ERA before being called up to AAA in the beginning of July. Once in Tucson, Brach saved 11 games in 12 chances and struck out 30 in just over 27 innings. On the season, Brad was a mid-season and post-season All Star in AA, was a pitcher of the week in the Pacific Coast League and saved 34 games between the two teams.
August 31, 2011 will forever be a day that Brad and his family remembers fondly. That day, Brach came out of the bullpen for the Padres to strike out three Dodgers in a scoreless inning of work. Brad also had a memorable day on the last day of the season when he recorded the final three outs for the Padres to end the 2011 campaign.
