Mavericks' Vega struck by line drive
The incident occurred in the top of the fourth inning after Zak Farkes hit a leadoff homer and Mickey Hall doubled. Ryan Khoury lined a pitch off Vega that caromed into left field. Hall scored, nearly colliding with the Mavericks trainer as he raced onto the field to tend to Vega.
The 20-year-old appeared dazed but was conscious when he was taken from the field in an ambulance.
Vega was treated at St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, Calif., but rejoined his teammates in the clubhouse after the game.
A non-drafted free agent who signed with the Seattle Mariners in 2003, he was charged with four runs on seven hits and a walk in three-plus innings. The native of Colombia is 3-4 with a 4.71 ERA in 13 starts this season.
Farkes went 3-for-5 and homered twice for Lancaster, which took the lead in the eighth on Tony Granadillo's two-out RBI single.
T.J. Large (2-0) retired four batters, fanning three, for the win. He allowed one hit and a walk before Chad Rhoades struck one out in the ninth for his eighth save. John Barnes made his fourth start for the JetHawks (36-29) and allowed five runs on four hits and six walks with eight strikeouts in 4 1/3 frames.
Paul Fagan (4-5) took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in two innings. Nicholas Allen gave up two runs -- one earned -- on five hits over four frames in relief of Vega.
Johan Limonta hit a three-run homer to extend his RBI streak to six games. Casey Craig went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, his sixth, in the seventh for the Mavericks (29-36).
