Twins promote Brunansky to Wings

The Rochester Red Wings today announced that Tom Brunansky has been named new hitting coach. The 51-year-old Brunansky was the hitting coach for Double-A New Britain in 2011.

Brunansky will enter his 2nd full season as a minor league coach in the Minnesota Twins organization and his first in Triple-A. Brunansky joined the Twins organization in July, 2010 as coach with the GCL Twins.

Brunansky, an outfielder, put together a 14-year Major League career (1981-1994), including seven seasons with the Minnesota Twins (1982-1988). A 1st round pick of the California Angels in 1978, Brunansky spent time with the Angels (1981), Minnesota Twins (1982-1988), St. Louis Cardinals (1988-1990), Boston Red Sox (1990-1992 & 1994), and Milwaukee Brewers (1993 & 1994) batting .245 with 271 home runs and 919 RBI in 1,800 Major League games.

The Poway, CA resident was a 1985 All-Star and member of the 1987 World Series Champion Minnesota Twins. Brunansky was named one of the 50 greatest Twins in 2010 and ranks 10th on the Twins All-Time home run list with 163.
