Middlebrooks Selected to 2011 Topps AA All-Star Team
Pawtucket Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks has been named to the 2011 Topps Double-A All-Star Team. The best performances in all Minor League Baseball classifications are again being honored by the Topps Company of New York, N.Y., in conjunction with Minor League Baseball.
Middlebrooks, 23 years-old, hit .302 (112-for-371) with 18 home runs and 80 RBI in 96 games for the Sea Dogs this season. He was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket on August 19th. At the time of his promotion he led the Eastern League with 80 RBI and ranked among the league leaders in several offensive categories including slugging percentage (.520- 5th), home runs (18- Tied 5th), and average (.302- 8th).
The Wake Village, Texas resident was named to both the mid-season and post-season Eastern League All-Star squads. Additionally, he participated in the XM Satellite Major League baseball Futures Game in Phoenix, Arizona on July 10th. Baseball America rated Middlebrooks as the "Best Batting Prospect" in the Eastern League in 2011. Additionally, entering the season, Baseball America rated Middlebrooks as having the "Best Infield Arm" in the Red Sox farm system. Middlebrooks established a new franchise record for most RBI's in the month of July with 29. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.
This fall Middlebrooks participated in the prestigious Arizona Fall League where he hit .250 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 13 games with the Scottsdale Scorpions and was named an Arizona Fall League Rising Star.
Middlebrooks is the first Sea Dog player since Jon Lester in 2005 to be selected to the Topps Double-A All-Star Team.
