Festival of Lights Fireworks Cancelled

November 18, 2011
Springfield, MO - The Springfield Festival of Lights fireworks show at Hammons Field has been cancelled for Saturday's special event.

With the expected high winds in the area Saturday, the city and Springfield Fire Marshall decided it would be safer to not have the fireworks display.

"With the potential for winds gusting up to 30 miles-per-hour Saturday afternoon and evening," said Director of Public Information Vince Crunk. "We decided for the safety of everyone to cancel the Fireworks at Hammons Field for Saturday's Festival of Lights Kick-off. All other activities will still take place, including the tree-lighting, Mr. & Mrs. Santa, Louie and more."

"We know that many of our fans look forward to our Festival of Lights Fireworks every year," Cardinals Vice President and General Manager said. "While we are disappointed that we could not host the fireworks show Saturday, we realize the Fire Marshall's concern. We hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday season."

Saturday's event will begin at 5pm with the Mayor's Tree-Lighting Ceremony, just west of Hammons Field at Jordan Valley Park. Santa and Louie will be on hand to take photos and complimentary hot chocolate will be served at the park.

The Festival of Lights is a six-week celebration that features many family-oriented free or low-cost activities and events right here in Springfield.
