Paulino, Hooks drop Missions
Paulino (3-4) stymied the Missions (30-39) through five innings, giving up one run on three hits while matching a season high with six strikeouts.
Joshua Miller came on for the Hooks (31-38 ) and walked one in three hitless innings. Jeff Wigdahl allowed a hit in the ninth before closing it out.
Ray Sadler staked the Hooks to an early lead with a two-run shot, his 13th, in the second. The 26-year-old center fielder also delivered an RBI single in the seventh and has hit safely in 19 of his last 22 games. He is batting .333 with eight homers and 16 RBIs in June.
Francisco Caraballo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Jeffrey Mackor hit a solo jack in the sixth.
Brett Bonvechio rapped a solo homer, his first, in the fourth to account for all of the offense for the Missions.
Starter Cesar Ramos (4-7) took the loss, yielding seven runs -- six earned -- on nine hits while walking one in 6 1/3 innings. --Michael Echan/MLB.com
