BayBears going to Futures game

June 22, 2007
Mobile, AL -- For the second straight season, two players on the BayBears roster will play in the XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game. Carlos Gonzalez and Justin Upton have both been selected, and will play in the game on July 8th in San Francisco.

Gonzalez played in last year's All-Star Futures game in Pittsburgh, and will join the World Team for the game in San Francisco. Through 69 Southern League games, Gonzalez has hit .269 with eight home runs, and a team high 40 RBI's. The Maracaibo, Venezuela native has been playing in the Minor Leagues with Arizona since 2003.

Upton will be one of the youngest players in this year's All-Star Futures Game, making the squad at just age 19. Since joining the BayBears in mid-May, Upton has hit .312 with eight home runs and 30 RBI's in 37 games. The Chesapeake, Virginia native was the first overall pick in the 2005 Amateur Draft by the Diamondbacks.

The All-Star Futures Game, started by Major League Baseball in 1999, is annually held in the days before Major League Baseball's All-Star Game. It puts the 25 best internationally born prospects in the Minor Leagues against the 25 best American born prospects. The game will be played on Sunday, July 8th at AT&T Park in San Francisco, home of the San Francisco Giants.
