Padres recall Ring

Portland, OR -- The San Diego Padres today recalled Portland left-handed pitcher Royce Ring, and transferred left-handed pitcher Adrian Burnside to Portland from Class AA San Antonio and outfielder Josh Alley to the Beavers from Class A Lake Elsinore.

Additionally, the Beavers placed infielder Oscar Robles on the disabled list (retroactive to June 21) with a left wrist fracture.

Ring, 26, is 4-0 with a 1.23 ERA, one save and 39 strikeouts in 25 relief appearances with the Beavers this season. In two appearances with San Diego in 2007, Ring is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two innings of work. Ring was first recalled by the Padres on April 30 and optioned back to Portland on May 7. In parts of three major league seasons with the New York Mets (2005-06) and the Padres (2007), Ring is 0-2 with a 3.20 ERA (9er, 25.1ip) in 28 appearances.

Burnside, 30, began the year on the Beavers disabled list with a left hamstring strain. The left-hander was reinstated from the disabled list May 25 and was 0-0 with a 2.19 ERA (3er, 12.1ip) with nine strikeouts in nine relief appearances with the Missions. A native of Australia, Burnside is a veteran of 12 professional seasons, beginning his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in 1996 as a non-drafted free agent. Burnside signed with the Padres as a minor league free agent on Nov. 9, 2006.

Alley, 23, started the year on the disabled list and batted .100 (1-for-10) with two walks and two runs scored for the Storm after being reinstated in early June. Alley was a 10th-round selection of the Padres in the 2005 draft.

Robles, 31, is batting .284 with five doubles, three triples, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored in 28 games with the Beavers this season.

The Beavers' active roster remains at its 24-man limit.
