January 30 Launches Extended String of Princeton Rays On-Line Auctions
The items involved are slated to change about every two weeks. Interested parties can both view the items and participate in the auctions by going to the team shop notation on the website's opening page and when the dropbar appears, clicking on "On-Line Auction."
"In the beginning here, in most cases these will be small items with a small opening bid amount of around $15.00 so that everyone has the chance to get involved. New bids above the opening bid must be in increments of five dollars. There could also be some 'buy now' pricing involved also," said P-Rays General Manager Jim Holland, who added that full auction details will be available with pictures of each new item posted.
While the team is hoping to add items as time goes along, in the beginning the auctions will revolve around a line of 7.5-inch bobblehead dolls (all of individuals with a Princeton connection that are presented in their Princeton uniform) that the team has distributed through the years. At the time of this story, bobblehead figures that parties can bid on will include Josh Hamilton (which is tentatively slated to be the first auction item), Jason Pridie, Wes Bankston, Jared Sandberg, Reid Brignac, Wade Davis, John Stearns, Jamie Nelson, P-Rays mascot Roscoe the Rooster, and even a replica model of Hunnicutt Field, the home stadium of the Princeton Rays. The team has actually produced more bobblehead characters than these so there is the possibility more figures may be added a later date. It is highly possible that some team autographed balls may appear for auction sometime during this period.
"There were only 504 bobbleheads produced of each subject. They are rare in the fact that they are mostly still here locally via our ballpark giveaways. People who collect bobbleheads nationwide really have an opportunity to pick up one or more of these for their collections," added Holland.
The team has run one test auction on the site previously but are now raring to make the on-line auction now a part of year-round life with the P-Rays. Keep your eyes open! A new phase in Princeton's professional baseball history is about to begin!
