Rookie Knights Baseball Camp a Success

June 26, 2007
Over 80 campers ranging in ages from 6 to 13 years old attended the Rookie Knights Baseball Camp the first week of June at Knights Stadium.

Campers were treated to one on one and group training from current Charlotte Knights players and coaches including hitting instructor Tack Wilson, pitching coach Juan Nieves, pitchers Ehren Wassermann, Shaun Babula, Lance Broadway and utility players Casey Rogowski, Ryan Sweeney, Kenny Kelly, Kenny Perez and catchers Gustavo Molina, Wiki Gonzalez and Ryan Smith. Strength and conditioning coach Chad Efron as well as trainer Scott Johnson were also on hand providing instruction and medical care when needed.

The campers were broken up into stations where groups of about 10 were given instruction in baseball fundamentals including bunting, fielding, pop flies, proper batting techniques and pitching instruction.

"It was wonderful to have such a large turnout for the camp, "said Tim O'Reilly, Camp Director. "I think it was a positive experience for both the kids and the parents, allowing their kids to come play at one of the best minor league parks in America."

Rookie Knights campers were treated to camp T-shirts, an autograph session with the players, tickets for the Friday night game against the Yankees and a pre-game picnic.

"I think our players had a good time. It is nice to see them instructing and interacting with the future stars of tomorrow," O'Reilly said.
