Shorebirds Job Fair Set for Feb. 25
The Shorebirds want to emphasize a need for a new mascot entertainer to perform as Sherman the Shorebird during games at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium this summer. Prior mascot experience is preferred by not required.
Interested candidates will be able to fill out an application and interview for a variety of available positions at the job fair.
The Shorebirds are hiring for the below positions. A brief explanation of the job duties are provided. With all positions, the Shorebirds are searching for outgoing, enthusiastic workers that are committed to making the gameday experience memorable for all of our fans.
- Flock/Entertainers - Serve as part of the entertainment team that energizes the crowd and assist in carrying out promotions during the game. Must be highly energetic, positive and willing to partake in out of the ordinary activities.
- Ushers - Help fans find their seats, wipe down seats and assist fans with any questions or concerns. Must be outgoing, friendly and willing to engage fans.
- Ticket Office - Assist fans that are looking to purchase tickets on gameday, hand out will call tickets and help fans with seating questions. Must have a customer service background and be able to work in a fast paced environment.
- Ticket Takers - Greet fans as they enter the stadium, scan tickets and distribute Shorebirds promotional materials. Must have an outgoing and friendly personality.
- Parking Attendants - Flag cars in a organized fashion to parking spots, collect parking fees and oversee intersection crosswalks. Must be approachable and willing to assist fans as they drive into the stadium.
- Amusements - Supervise the safety of the amusement area at the stadium which includes a bounce house, ball whacker and carousel. Must be able to handle kids and must be outgoing.
- Flock Shop - Assist fans as they enter the Flock Shop, work the register and help with inventory. Must have prior retail experience and be comfortable handling money.
- Press Box Personnel - Assist in operating cameras, sound system and video board. Prior experience working in audio/video production is preferred.
"Each year we give the entire Eastern Shore an opportunity to join our staff through this job fair," said general manager Chris Bitters. "We're looking for people that really want to be a part of all the fun and excitement during the entire season at Perdue Stadium!"
The Shorebirds catering company, Ovations, will also be conducting interviews for positions on Feb. 25. Ovations is hiring concession cashiers and concession cooks.
Job seekers must be available to work week nights and weekends between April 3 (Salisbury University exhibition game) and August 30 (final home game) . The majority of Monday through Saturday games begin at 7:05 p.m. while Sunday games will be played at 2:05 p.m. during the first half of the season and 5:05 p.m. from July 1 through the end of the season.
The only stipulation to work for the Delmarva Shorebirds is that you must be 16-years old by April 1, 2012.
Arthur W. Perdue Stadium is located at 6400 Hobbs Road, Salisbury Md. 21804. The stadium parking lot is adjacent to Route 50 heading towards Ocean City.
The Delmarva Shorebirds open the 2012 season on April 3 with a special exhibition game against Salisbury University at Perdue Stadium. The South Atlantic League home opener is scheduled for April 12 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Miami Marlins).

Delmarva Shorebirds
The Delmarva Shorebirds are the Class "A" Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The Shorebirds are owned by 7th Inning Stretch, L.P., the same company that owns the Stockton Ports of the California League and the Everett AquaSox of the Northwest League. The Shorebirds are celebrating 17-years of professional baseball on the Eastern Shore. During the 2009 season, the Shorebirds finished with an average attendance of 3,567 fans, the largest average since the 2002 season. In 2007, The Shorebirds had the top attendance based on market size in Minor League Baseball(tm), according to Sports Business Journal (Aug. 2008). In 2010, more than 6,000 fans packed Arthur W. Perdue Stadium nine times including a season high of 8,993 fans on August 7th. In 2011, the Shorebirds welcomed ten crowds of over 5,000 fans.
