Mariners announce Billy Wagner charity golf tournament

The tournament's proceeds will benefit Wagner's Second Chance Learning Center.
February 10, 2012
PULASKI, VA - The Mariners are excited to announce that they will be holding a golf tournament in support of Billy Wagner's Second Chance Learning Center (SCLC). The event will take place on April 20th at the Pulaski Country Club and the proceeds will be donated to the Center. Wagner will be in attendance to support his charity and will be available to meet and greet with registered tournament teams at designated times of the event. The day will also include a silent auction featuring signed baseball memorabilia and other prizes.

Wagner, a Southwest Virginia native, played 16 seasons in the Major Leagues for 5 different teams and was a 7-time All-Star. He started the non-profit foundation with his longtime friend, Erik Robinson, in an effort to address the increased school drop-out rate in Southwest Virginia. With locations in Bluefield and Tazewell - plans for a future Pulaski location are in the works - the SCLC offers free tutoring, mentoring, and counseling for middle and high school students with educational and social problems. SCLC also provides scholarships to Southwest Virginia students looking to continue their education beyond high school in college or trade school.

If you have any questions regarding the golf tournament or would like to enter a team of four, please call the ballpark at 540-980-1070 or email: [email protected] to receive a tournament information/registration packet.
