Perez trims Crosscutters
Perez (1-0) allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out six. The 22-year-old left-hander had pitched a total of six innings in his first two starts.
The Doubledays (6-4) held a 2-1 lead before erupting for five runs in the top of the eighth. C.J. Ebard delivered an RBI single before Paul Franko plated the second run with a double. Baron Frost followed with a two-run double and Adam Calderone capped the scoring with a two-bagger that plated pinch-runner Victor Santana.
Calderone was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Frost and Luis Sanchez each went 2-for-4 as the team went a combined 7-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Crosscutters starter Tyson Brummett (0-1) took the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in three innings. Carlos Pena was tagged for five runs on four hits while retiring only one batter as his ERA jumped from 2.25 to 12.46.
Tyler Mach, the only player on Williamsport (6-4) with more than one hit, went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. --Zack Hample/MLB.com
