Rangers Top Prospects: #10 Rougned Odor

February 20, 2012

Rangers Top Prospects
No. 10 - Rougned Odor

The 17-year-old Venezuelan signed with the Texas organization in early 2011. He spent the entirety of last season with the short-season Spokane Indians.

Odor is thought of highly for his compact swing and advanced plate approach for his age. In 2011 he hit .262 with two home runs and 29 RBIs from the left side of the plate and added 10 stolen bases. Scouts do not mind the low power numbers now because at 5-foot-10 and 155 pounds, Odor’s body has a lot of room to bulk up. Many think he can swat around 15 homers per year.

He played mostly shortstop for numerous teams in Venezuela. However, he came into the 2011 season listed as an infielder because many scouts feel he will eventually move to second base where he played all of his 54 games for Spokane.

Per usual, prospects as young as Odor are viewed as long-term projects and it may very well be a few years before he enters the picture in Arlington. He could start 2012 with Class A Hickory or even Class A-Advanced Myrtle Beach.
