River Cats Team Up With Sutter Health On Field Makeover Project

March 5, 2012
SACRAMENTO, Calif., -- The Sacramento River Cats partnered with Sutter Health in a high school baseball field renovation project Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to noon at the Foothill High School baseball and softball fields, as part of the "Sutter Health Fit-For-Life Baseball Field Makeover" program.

Saturday marked the fifth time that the River Cats and Sutter Health have teamed up to rebuild an area high school athletic field. As part of the program, Sutter Health provided a $50,000 grant to help pay for a new infield, bullpens, a rebuilt mound and home plate area, and new bases for the baseball and softball fields at Foothill High School in North Highlands. In addition, FHS received a new riding lawn mower, aluminum bleachers, scorer's table, concession stand, public address system, windscreen, polycap, drag, spike drag, backstop padding, and new baseball equipment, including baseballs, whiffle balls, L-screen, bats, and tees. A new scoreboard will be unveiled at the FHS baseball field in April.

In addition to the donation of equipment, Sutter Health, the River Cats, and other volunteers spent the morning pulling weeds, cleaning the concession stand, and installing new fence equipment at the baseball and softball fields. The volunteers spent nearly 400 man-hours on the project, which will culminate with a public unveiling-including a baseball clinic led by River Cats players-at the end of April.

Other groups that partnered with Sutter Health and the River Cats on this project include the Foothill High School Booster Club (breakfast for volunteers), Breiter Productions (t-shirts for volunteers) and the Twin Rivers Unified School District, which painted the dugouts and concession stand and laid new cement around the bleacher areas.
