Shawn Thornton of the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins to Make Appearance at Hadlock Field
Thornton will be available to sign free autographs on photos provided by the Portland Sea Dogs for fans from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
Thornton was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 7th round (190th overall) of the 1997 NHL draft and was signed by the Boston Bruins as a free agent prior to the 2007-08 season. Last season in Boston, he set career-highs in points scored (20), goals (10), and assists (10) and helped the team win its first Stanley Cup title in 39 years. Before he joined the Bruins, Thornton spent 2006-07 season with the Anaheim Ducks, where he earned his first Stanley Cup. During the same campaign, he played in 15 games with the Portland Pirates the Ducks' AHL affiliate.
Among the other celebrities lined-up to visit Hadlock Field in 2012 are Mr. Belding, Sergeant Slaughter, and a New England Patriots Player. Mr. Belding from the hit television show Saved by the Bell, is scheduled to be at Hadlock Field on Friday, April 27th for Teacher Appreciation Day. Famed WWE wrestler Sergeant Slaughter is slated to be at the ballpark on Tuesday, July 24. A date and personality will be announced at a later time regarding an appearance by a New England Patriots player.
The Sea Dogs will open the 2012 season on the road with a 4:05 PM doubleheader in Reading, Pennsylvania against the Reading Phillies. The home opener is slated for Thursday, April 12th at 6:00 PM against the Binghamton Mets at Hadlock Field. The 2012 season will be the Sea Dogs 19th year in Portland and tenth as a Boston Red Sox affiliate.
