Barons outlast Diamond Jaxx

Thomas Collaro's RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning gave Birmingham a 5-4 win over West Tenn on Friday.

Adam Shabala greeted Diamond Jaxx reliever Aaron Trolia (3-2) with a leadoff single in the 12th and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Kenny Perez. Collaro followed with a base hit to left field, scoring Shabala and giving the Barons (7-12) their third win in four games.

Perez also hit a run-scoring groundout in the ninth to force extra innings, while Collaro, Shabala and Ricardo Nanita each had two hits.

Reliever Oneli Perez (4-2) picked up the win after striking out two and walking one in two scoreless innings. Starter Gio Gonzalez gave up three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five in three innings.

Marshall Hubbard and Matt Tuiasosopo hit RBI singles around a sacrifice fly by Charlton Jimerson in the third for West Tenn (6-13). Brent Johnson and Prentice Redman each had three hits and a run scored.

Diamond Jaxx starter Andrew Baldwin yielded an unearned run on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts over six innings before Jose De La Cruz surrendered three runs on four hits in 2 1/3 frames. Trolia was charged with one run on two hits while recording only one out. --Marc Jimenez/MLB.com
