Wood Ducks Set to Open the New Mother Earth Pavilion at Grainger Stadium
KINSTON, NC - The Down East Wood Ducks will open the new Mother Earth Pavilion at Grainger Stadium ahead of Thursday's home-opener with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. down the right field line at the ballpark. The event is also open to the public.
Several parties involved with the project will be available to comment with the media. The current list includes (listed alphabetically, subject to change):
- Bill Ellis - Formerly the Kinston/Lenoir County Director of Parks/Rec, Ellis was kept on the project on behalf of the city as he was involved with the earliest stages of the project
- Don Hardy - Mayor of Kinston
- Stephen Hill - co-owner of Mother Earth Brewing, as MEB has exclusive naming rights to the pavilion
- Wade Howell - General Manager of the Wood Ducks
- Tim Joyner - General Contractor for the project from WIMCO Corporation
- Paul Kruger - Assistant Director of Player Development, Texas Rangers, served as the point of contact from the Rangers side of the project as Phase 2 also including a new weight room for Grainger Stadium
- Tony Sears - City of Kinston City Manager
- Russ Woods - Dunn and Dalton Architects, served as the architect for the project as D&DA is based in Kinston
The two-story structure encompasses approximately 10,000 square feet including 6,000 covered in the open-air pavilion. The upper level can be accessed via stairs or ramp and can accommodate for large groups in their own private setting. Both levels will feature a new covered bar as well the option for seating or standing to enjoy the game. At least one level of the pavilion will be open every home games for Wood Duck fans to enjoy.
