EMERALDS COME BACK ON BEARS
(Eugene, OR) - Luis Durango hit a game-ending solo homerun in the 10th after tying the game with a two-run triple in the eighth, as the Eugene Emeralds completed a five-run comeback to sweep a five-game series with the Yakima Bears 7-6 at Eugene Civic Stadium.
Durango followed Brian Joynt's two-run double in the eighth with a two-run triple to right field in a four-run eighth inning that tied the game 6-6. He won it with his second homerun of the season to right field with one out in the 10th.
The Bears used a three-run fifth to take a 5-2 lead, starting with Mark Hallberg's RBI single to left. Two more scored on an RBI infield single by Clayton Conner and shortstop Lance Zawadski's wild throw to first from deep in the hole. Yakima added a run on Evan Frey's RBI single to center in the 8th with two outs.
Hallberg finished with four hits, including a solo homerun to centerfield in the third. Ramon Ramirez gave the Bears the first lead of the game with a runs scoring double off the left field wall in the 2nd. Ramirez finished the night with three hits.
Dan Fournier pitched well once again in his fourth start, giving up on earned run on four hits in five innings while striking out four. Omar Arif pitched two perfect innings of relief.
The Bears begin a three game series against the Spokane Indians Saturday night at Yakima County Stadium, with Luis Caro getting the start at 7:05 p.m. Spokane is in first place in the Northwest League East division.
