'Topes edge Redbirds

July 8, 2007
Josh Labandeira's RBI single keyed a two-run seventh inning as visiting Albuquerque edged Memphis, 6-5, on Saturday.

With the game tied, 1-1, Scott Seabol drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on Chad Hermansen's single and scored on Labandeira's base hit to right field. Hermansen, who took third on Labandeira's hit, came home on a squeeze bunt by pitcher Daniel Barone.

John Gall had put the Isotopes (45-45) on the board in the first with his ninth homer, a solo blast.

Barone (4-0) allowed two runs on five hits, striking out four and walking one over six frames to remain unbeaten. Roy Corcoran tossed two perfect innings for his third save.

Rick Ankiel belted his 26th homer leading off the bottom of the seventh for the Redbirds (38-52). The former pitcher is tied with Toledo's Mike Hessman for second in the Minor Leagues behind Omaha's Craig Brazell, who has 30.

Memphis starter Mike Parisi (5-7) took the loss, despite recording a career-high 12 strikeouts over seven innings. He gave up three runs on four hits and three walks. --Alan Friedman/MLB.com
