Crawdads Earn First Sweep

July 9, 2007
Hickory, NC-The Hickory Crawdads beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 4-2, on Monday at L.P. Frans Stadium. With the win, the Dads' picked up their first series sweep of the season.

Mike Crotta sizzled on the mound in his first outing since a spot start at AA Altoona. The RHP retired the side in order on 3 straight groundouts in the opening frame.

Bobby Kingsbury nailed his 7th HR of the season, a solo shot to left, to give the Dads' a 1-0 lead in the 1st.

Hoppers' SP Kyle Winters and Crotta dueled over the next 3 innings. The Dads' struck again in the 5th. Eddie Prasch led off the inning with a triple. He later scored on an RBI single bounced to right by Alex Presley. With 3 hits on the night, Presley raised his batting average to .307. Presley advanced to 3rd as the ball was misplayed by the RF Scott Cousins. A bloop single from Jim Negrych plated Presley, as the Dads' went up 3-0.

Greensboro picked up 2 runs in the 7th. Crotta was removed, after allowing just 2 runs, 1 earned, on 6 hits in 6.1 IP. The Dads' though added a big insurance run in the 8th on a bases loaded walk drawn by Prasch.

Olivo Astacio closed out a scoreless 9th to pick up his 11th save. Crotta (4-5) earned the win. Winters (2-1) took the loss.

The Crawdads are off on Tuesday before they open up a 3 game series in Charleston, WV with the West Virginia Power on Wednesday night at 7:00. RHP Jeff Sues is scheduled to start for Hickory. All games can be heard on WMNC 92.1 FM.
