Varsity First Pitch Returns to The Hangar

The ninth annual high school baseball showcase will feature 23 teams from throughout Southern California.

(LANCASTER, CA) - The ninth annual Varsity First Pitch, sponsored by the University of Antelope Valley, is set to start Monday, March 19 at Clear Channel Stadium. The weeklong high school baseball showcase is free to the public and provides high school players and coaches the unique opportunity to compete in a professional baseball venue.

Twenty-three teams will be featured in the six-day event which will include 12 games and a home run derby. Two games will be played each day, the first beginning at 3:15pm and the second starting at 6:30pm. The second game on Friday, March 23 will be pushed back to 7:30pm to accommodate the home run derby at 6:00pm.

"We're excited to continue our relationship with the University of Antelope Valley and provide high school players with the chance to play at a minor league facility," said JetHawks General Manager Derek Sharp. "It will be a great week for baseball in the Antelope Valley and we may get to see some of these players in a JetHawks uniform one day."

The Varsity First Pitch schedule of games is as follows:
Lancaster Baptist vs. Trinity Classical Academy, Monday, 3:15pm
Littlerock vs. Golden Valley, Monday, 6:30pm
Desert Christian vs. Rosamond, Tuesday, 3:15pm
Paraclete vs. Palmdale, Tuesday, 6:30pm
Frazier Mountain vs. Taft, Wednesday, 3:15pm
Vasquez vs. Eastside, Wednesday, 6:30pm
Mojave vs. Kern Valley, Thursday, 3:15pm
Knight vs. Hesperia, Thursday, 6:30pm
Desert vs. Antelope Valley, Friday, 3:15pm
Home Run Derby, Friday, 6:00pm
Lancaster vs. Harvard-Westlake, Friday, 7:30pm
Highland vs. Temple City, Saturday, 3:15pm
Cal City vs. Desert Christian, Saturday, 6:30pm

The JetHawks open the 2012 season at High Desert on April 5 and return to The Hangar on Thursday, April 12 for the home opener against Lake Elsinore.
