2012 BLW Recap: Cubs-Rangers Split Two-Game Series

The Rangers, making their first visit to Las Vegas for Big League Weekend, won the opener, 12-7, on Saturday afternoon before a sellout crowd of 9,889. Texas broke open the 3-1 game by scoring nine runs over the final two frames. The Rangers scored five runs in the eighth inning and four runs in the ninth.
Shortstop Elvis Andrus was 2-for-3 with a run scored; center fielder Julio Borbon was 2-for-3, 2 RBI; left fielder Ryan Strausborger was 2-for-2, double, two runs scored and first baseman Mike Bianucci was 2-for-2, 2 RBI.
Second baseman Adrian Cardenas led the Cubs with a 3-for-4, double, solo home run performance.
Left-hander Derek Holland had a strong outing for Texas. He pitched 4 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 2.
The Cubs, making their eighth straight appearance and 11th overall to Cashman Field, defeated the Rangers, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 8,622.
Cubs Right fielder Joe Mather (1-for-3) hit a solo home run, with one out in the ninth inning, to break the 2-2 tie. Second baseman Bobby Scales (1-for-3) added an RBI double in the eighth inning to give Chicago a 2-1 lead.
Designated hitter Borbon was 1-for-2, walk, RBI and left fielder Josh Hamilton was 1-for-2.
Rangers Left-hander Matt Harrison pitched 5 solid innings and allowed 1 hit and 1 run. Cubs right-hander Chris Volstad pitched 4 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 run and struck out 3.
