Davis stretches streak to 32 games

Inches closer to Gates' California League record
July 15, 2007
Chris Davis extended his hitting streak to 32 games Saturday, but the Bakersfield Blaze suffered a 10-2 loss to the Visalia Oaks.

After striking out in the second and fourth innings, Davis led off the seventh with a single to move within three games of matching the longest hitting streak in California League history, set by Modesto's Brent Gates in 1992.

The 21-year-old third baseman finished 1-for-4, one night after going 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs in a 13-12 setback to High Desert. He is 21-for-48 with 14 RBIs in his last 12 games.
