Furmaniak called to Major Leagues
Infielder becomes the 65th BayBear to be called up
Mobile, AL -- Former Mobile BayBear infielder J.J. Furmaniak is now playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, after being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis. Furmaniak had been helping Indianapolis try and beat Toledo for the International League Championship Series, but was promoted to Pittsburgh after Pirates infielder Jack Wilson had back spasms. J.J. joins former BayBears Jason Bay and Oliver Perez on the Pirates Major League roster.
Furmaniak played for the BayBears in 2003 and 2004. He hit .196 in 14 games with Mobile last year, before his promotion to Triple-A Portland. Furmaniak was traded to the Pirates organization on July 28th for pitcher David Ross.
